How do I claim my SUPER back?

If you have worked in Australia on a temporary visa and intend to leave Australia permanently, you may be entitled to a refund of your superannuation.

Superannuation is the amount of money set aside for a person's retirement. This is equivalent to a pension or social payments in other countries. It is paid by your employer into a Superannuation Fund.
(Please note New Zealand residents are not entitled to claim back their super.)

Our processing fee for a superannuation refund is $149. Transfer to an international bank account is $44.

Some super funds will not allow us to claim your superannuation refund easily, so be sure to read our tips about which super fund to use on our Just Arrived page.

If your superannuation fund rejects the online system application, and we are required to process the refund again via a paper claim, you will be charged two processing fees.

When can I claim a SUPER refund?

There are two general requirements for claiming a superannuation refund:

  1. You have permanently departed Australia. (You can start the process before you leave though so come and see Super Return for help)

  2. Your current visa must be expired or cancelled. If you cancel your own visa you will save a fee that we charge if we do it for you.

How to cancel your visa?

If you are outside Australia, you can request the department to cancel your visa in order to access your superannuation. Your request for cancellation must include the following information:

You must also provide details of all people who hold a visa because they are a member of your family unit, or hold a visa only because you hold your visa. (This includes, but is not limited to, people who were included in your visa application).

Any visa(s) held by members of your family unit, that are held only because you hold your visa, will also be cancelled whether they are in or outside Australia.

Any visa(s) held by people, other than members of your family unit, that are held only because you hold your visa, may also be cancelled whether they are in or outside Australia.

Requests for cancellation should be sent in writing via email or via post:
